Firefighters in South Yorkshire managed to save a local primary school from severe damage after spotting a blaze while attending another incident.Eagle-eyed crews spotted smoke billowing from Mexborough Windhill Junior and Infants School in Doncaster after they were called to an incident in a nearby street.The fire started in a play area and spread to a nearby classroom, which only suffered smoke damage thanks to the fast actions of the fire brigade.
CCTV footage is now being studied to help police with their investigation.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, a 'suitable and sufficient' fire risk assessment must be conducted on all commercial properties in England and Wales. If the fire risk assessment is deemed to be carried out to an insufficient extent, the Responsible Person can face an unlimited fine or a prison sentence of up to two years.
