This includes managers, supervisors, team leaders, fire wardens (marshals) and staff working in any area where there is a potential risk of fire.

Active Fire Management have spent considerable time this month working for a number of customers all around the country reviewing Fire Risk Assessments.

Kerry Lawrence, Director of Active Fire Management said “it’s one thing having an initial Fire Risk Assessment carried out within your premises, but it is also part of fire safety law to ensure that your Fire Risk Assessment is subject to review.  Fire Risk Assessments are now seen by Local Authorities and indeed the law to be ongoing processes.  You must ensure that your Fire Risk Assessment is regularly reviewed and updated to make sure existing problems have been dealt with and to quickly identify any new issues which may arise”.

This  month  the  company’s  Fire  Risk  Assessors  have  been  busy  working  in  London, Cardiff,  Huddersfield  and  Cornwall  carrying  out  assessments  and  reviews  as  part  of ongoing contracts with its customers.

Active  Fire  Management  were  delighted  to  have  supported  the  leading  UK  Charity  for people  with  autistic  spectrum  disorders  and  their  families  –  the  National  Autistic  Society (NAS)  –  earlier  this  month by  delivering  a  fire  marshal  training  course  to  some  of  the Charity’s staff.

The  training,  which  was  provided  free  of  charge  in  support  of  the  Charity’s  work,  was delivered at the Charity’s Acton Services on 13 April 2012.

A  representative  of  the  National  Autistic  Society  said  “the  course was  very  well  received and enjoyed by all the staff attending”.

Kerry Lawrence, Director of Active Management, who has a son with Asperger Syndrome (an autistic spectrum disorder) said “I am very pleased that we were able to provide help to a Charity so close to my own heart that campaigns so hard for a better world for people with  autism.    I’m  sure  the  NAS’  work  goes  such  a  long  way  to  create  resources  and awareness to help the world better understand people with autism and their very specific needs”.

Aimed at anyone with a responsibility towards management of fire safety in any organisation or business, Active Fire Management has launched a training course for Fire Safety Managers which provides course delegates with a nationally recognised qualification in Fire Safety.  The Level 2 Fire Safety Qualification is awarded upon completion of an examination under Active Fire Management’s awarding body – Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance (HABC).

General fire safety in England and Wales is maintained through compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The legislation implements a risk-based approach to fire safety in community, industrial and business premises.  It requires the responsible person (usually the employer, owner or occupier) to carry out a fire safety risk assessment, implement appropriate fire precautionary and protection measures and to maintain a fire management plan.  All members of staff have a role to play in fire safety and the fire safety qualification supports these various roles.

All individuals involved with fire safety must receive all the required information and training to deal with fire safety issues.  Attendance on Active Fire Management’s Level 2 Fire Safety Qualifications on the QCF (Qualifications Credit Framework) will ensure this.

The provision of this fire safety qualification will assist organisations meet their legal obligations as well as provide a much safer working environment for all of their employees.

The Level 2 course ensures that delegates know that fire safety is the responsibility of everyone in the workplace and will recognise the consequences of a fire in any premises.
Kerry Lawrence, Director of Active Management said “we are delighted to be able to add this course to our 2012 training portfolio.  This qualification is aimed at anyone involved in the management of fire safety in the workplace which includes managers, supervisors, team leaders, fire marshals/wardens and staff working in any area where this is a potential risk of fire.  So far the course is being delivered to housing association and hotel staff, however it’s relevant to any organisation or business as the qualification is aimed at anyone involved in the management of fire safety in any workplace”.
